2023 Scholarship Recipients

Cadet Corporal David W. Townsend

Cadet Corporal David W. Townsend plans to pursue a commission throught the Navy ROTC program at Virginia Military Institute majoring in Civil Engineering. He graduated number 16 out of a class of 217 from Goochland High School, Goochland, Virginia, with an unweighted Grade Point Average of 3.90. He plans to take the Marine option through the Navy ROTC program to become a Second Lieutenant. He hopes to become a combat engineer officer upon graduation from The Basic School, Quantico, Virginia.










Cadet Captain Payton Raffensperger

Cadet Captain Payton Raffensperger plans to double major in psychology and criminal justice while earning a bacalaurate degree at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She graduated number 52 out of a class of 404 from Kelly Walsh High School, Casper, Wyoming, with a unweighted Grade Point Average of 3.97. Payton plans to continue her education by working on a master degree in criminology. Her ultimate goal is to work as a criminal profiler with the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI.











Cadet Captain Melissa Zaldivar

Cadet Captain Melissa Zaldivar plans to major in biomedical engineering at the University of California, Irvine. She has been chosen to take part in their honors program. She graduated number 6 out of a class of 469 from John C. Fremont High School, Los Angeles, California, with an unweighted Grade Point Average of 3.923. She promises to do her best to seek out opportunities and serve as an example for other younger generations in her community that minorities can go to college and change society.










Cadet First Lieutenant Julian Rosario

Cadet First Lieutenant Julian Rosario plans to major in mechanical engineering at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Georgia. He graduated number 91 out of a class of 402 from Glynn Academy High School, Brunswick, Georgia, with an unweighted Grade Point Average of 3.947. Following receipt of a bacaleaurate degree he plans to pursue a master degree in mechanical engineering. He then plans to join the military-industrial complex to use his education to contribute to the advancement in military hardware and technology as his service to his country.








Cadet Captain Valeria Martir-Luna

Cadet Captain Valeria Martir-Luna plans to major in business administration with a minor in psychology at Chico State University, Chico, California. She graduated number 91 out of a class of 496 from John F. Kennedy High School, Sacramento, California, with an unweighted Grade Point Average of 3.50. Following graduation she intends to work in the business world and eventually establish her own business.











Cadet Staff Sergeant Makayla B. Querry

Cadet Staff Sergeant Makayla B. Querry plans to major in sports marketing at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia. She graduated number 29 out of 125 from Sissionville High School, Charleston, West Virginia, with an unweighted Grade Point Average of 3.73. She hopes to work in social media for a sports team or doing promotional work in the sports world. She also hopes to become a wife and mother at some time in the future.











Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in this world. Marines don't have that problem -- President Ronald Reagan
